Vitamin E is a group of fat-soluble micronutrient compounds, including tocopherols and tocotrienols, that have several important roles in the body.

Antioxidants can help protect cells from damage caused by free radicals, which are reactive molecules that can contribute to various health issues, including aging. By neutralizing free radicals, Vitamin E helps can help prevent oxidative stress and maintain cellular health.

Vitamin E can be derived from various plant-based oils, for example, wheat germ oil, sunflower oil, and safflower oil. Food-based sources of Vitamin E include almonds, avocados, spinach, broccoli, and kiwi fruits. I am a big fan of a diet-based approach to supporting skin health; adding plant-based nutrients can contribute to healthier skin.

How does vitamin E work?

Vitamin E helps with protection and nourishment. It is a thick, hearty oil that is high in antioxidants. Antioxidants tend to neutralize skin-damaging agents, and oil is known to moisturize and hold water within the skin.

Vitamin E combats damage caused by free radicals, such as UV rays and environmental pollutants. Unstable molecules cause oxidative stress, leading to premature aging, wrinkles, and fine lines. Vitamin E neutralizes these damaging agents, reducing the signs of aging and promoting a youthful complexion.

Tocopherol also aids in maintaining skin hydration and soothing dryness, making it a versatile ingredient for various skin concerns. It can be a game-changer for individuals dealing with dry or dehydrated skin. This nutrient aids in enhancing the skin's moisture retention capacity, thus reducing the appearance of flakiness and roughness. Vitamin E helps maintain a supple, nourished complexion by sealing in moisture.

Vitamin E is renowned for its ability to promote skin healing and reduce the appearance of scars. Its powerful anti-inflammatory properties aid in repairing damaged skin cells and reducing redness caused by acne, wounds, or other skin injuries.

When combined with sunscreen, Vitamin E's antioxidant properties help to reinforce the skin's defense against harmful UV rays. By blocking free radicals and reducing UV-induced damage, Vitamin E helps maintain skin integrity.

How can I add vitamin E into my routine?

Whether you use Vitamin E-enriched creams, serums, or oils, your skin will benefit from its hydrating properties, promoting a smoother and more plump appearance. By incorporating products rich in Vitamin E, you can provide your skin with a constant antioxidant shield, thus reducing the risk of long-term damage and maintaining a radiant glow.

Applying Vitamin E topically or adding it to your diet can support the body's natural healing process and promote faster and more efficient tissue repair. However, I always recommend a patch test and/or consulting a skincare specialist or an esthetician before adding new products!
