Argan Oil

Argan oil is a deeply nourishing oil used for nourishing and healing properties. It has been used for centuries in traditional medicine and healing protocols. Its unique lightweight, non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores!) and composition make it a great, sustainable, multi-use product that works to nourish the face, body, and hair.

I love argan oil because of its versatility. Compared to other oils, like coconut oil, argan is lightweight and supports skin and hair structure without being overbearing.

What is argan oil?

Argan is a plant-based oil made from the kernels of the argan plant (1). Argan oil has been used for centuries throughout Northern Africa. It is used for skincare, haircare, and culinary purposes (1).

Argan oil is a bit different in that it hydrates the skin with fatty acids as well as creates a barrier on the skin. If you have chronically dry or dehydrated skin and hair, argan oil can be a great option for lightweight and long-term nourishment.

How can argan oil benefit my skin?

1. Increased hydration

2. Anti-aging

3. Soothing inflammatory skin problems

4. Acne-safe

Argan oil is a fantastic moisturizer for the skin because of its unique composition. The fatty acids help to strengthen the skin's barrier and prevent moisture loss.

Argan oil is packed with antioxidants such as vitamin E, which help neutralize free radicals that can damage the skin and accelerate aging. Regular use of argan oil can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and improve skin texture and tone. It is also rich in vitamin C, which can help to brighten the skin and reduce the appearance of dark spots and hyperpigmentation of the skin . Regular use of argan oil can help to even out skin tone and give the skin a more radiant and youthful appearance.

Argan has anti-inflammatory properties, which could help inflammatory conditions by soothing irritated skin. It can help to reduce redness, inflammation, and itchiness, making it ideal for those with sensitive skin or conditions such as eczema or psoriasis.

Contrary to popular belief, using oil on oily or acne-prone skin can actually be beneficial, sometimes, depending on the oil! Argan oil is non-comedogenic, meaning it won't clog pores, and can help to regulate sebum production. It also has antibacterial properties, which can help to clear up existing acne and prevent future breakouts.

Although it is said that some whole oils can have sun protectant properties, it isn’t a replacement for sunscreen. But some natural sun-protective properties are nice, right?

How can I add argan to my skin routine?

Argan oil is a versatile and effective skincare ingredient that offers a wide range of benefits for the skin. That being said, you really can add it wherever you need it! It can be used as a standalone moisturizer, added to your favorite skincare products, or even used as a hair treatment. Its lightweight texture makes it suitable for all skin types, from oily to dry.

To use argan oil for skin, apply a few drops to clean, damp skin and gently massage in. For hair, massage a small amount into the scalp or ends for added moisture and shine. I love adding a couple of drops to my body lotion as well!
